Congratulations to Michelle Ximenez and Joshua Darden for receiving the James Long Undergraduate Research Scholarship of $1000 from the Texas Mosquito Control Association for their planned research this spring.
Along with Michelle, Sofia Andujo, Crystal Serrano, and Jessica Buitron attended the TMCA meeting in Kerrville, TX. All are doing research with me this fall and coming spring.

Congratulations to Alma Ruiz who won 2nd Place in the Undergraduate Research in Life Sciences division at the Texas A&M Pathways Symposium in Corpus Christi, TX for her poster presentation on her summer research.

Amarillys Barquin, Kalin Skinner, and Benjamin McGehee attended the meeting and presented their research on feral hog parasites and mosquito vectors. While there, the students found out how "cool" Omaha actually is! (speaking like a native).

Summer Mosquito Collection Season & New Students in the Lab
This summer the Wise Lab was FULL of students - 10 in total with 2 students form the Alamo Colleges spending the summer with us. Joshua Darden, from St. Phillips College, and Dominique Hernandez from Palo Alto College were both awarded a summer fellowship through the CIMA/LSMAP NSF grant to provide research experiences for students from minority-serving 2-year colleges. Also joining the lab are two A&M-San Antonio students, Elizabeth Gallardo and Sofia Andujo, who are doing a summer research project through our BIOL 4304 course.
Southwestern Association of Parasitologists Regional Meeting - April 16-18, 2015
Six students and I attended the annual meeting at Lake Texoma, Oklahoma. Kalin Skinner and Amarillys Barquin presented their research on feral hog parasites and mosquito species distribution respectively.
Kalin Skinner won the Marc Dresden Best Undergraduate Research Presentation and won $150! Nice job Kalin!

Texas Mosquito Control Association Meeting - October 7-9, 2014
Three undergraduate researchers and I attended the annual meeting in Galveston, Texas last fall. Alfonso Vazquez presented research on a preliminary survey of mosquitoes in residential areas of San Antonio. Alfonso was the only undergraduate presenter at this meeting!
